Vicaima, a wooden doors and doorframes manufacturer has implemented RFID Passive UHF Tag, system to watch its Vale de Cambra manufacturing facility closely. The primary objective is to improve cost effectiveness and increase efficiency in production.
Creative Systems based in Santa Maria da Feira, designed and installed the RFID System. A Creative Systems engineer said that Vicaima has invested more than just a few hundred thousand dollars to implement the RFID system and the investment will prove to be worthwhile. Talking about numbers Vicaima plans to cut down on the production cost by 1.5% annually. The plan will include automating some processes and managing inventory more efficiently.
In the manufacturing unit as doors and frames travel on conveyer belts, there will be an interrogator positioned at each production line which will read the unique identification number encoded on each RFID Tag. Vicaima has plans to expand its RFID system to five manufacturing facilities in Portugal and one in U.K. This expansion will give Vicaima the opportunity to monitor product shipment from its manufacturing facilities to warehouses and then on to the customers.
Figures indicate that Vicaima generated about 90 million from its industrial business. The increase in the revenues is expected from the ability to track and locate products in real-time.

Introducing Viacaima
Vicaima, a wooden doors and doorframes manufacturer has implemented RFID Passive UHF Tag, system to watch its Vale de Cambra manufacturing facility closely. The primary objective is to improve cost effectiveness and increase efficiency in production.
The system
Creative Systems based in Santa Maria da Feira, designed and installed the RFID System. A Creative Systems engineer said that Vicaima has invested more than just a few hundred thousand dollars to implement the RFID system and the investment will prove to be worthwhile. Talking about numbers Vicaima plans to cut down on the production cost by 1.5% annually. The plan will include automating some processes and managing inventory more efficiently.
The mechanism
In the manufacturing unit as doors and frames travel on conveyer belts, there will be an interrogator positioned at each production line which will read the unique identification number encoded on each RFID Tag. Vicaima has plans to expand its RFID system to five manufacturing facilities in Portugal and one in U.K. This expansion will give Vicaima the opportunity to monitor product shipment from its manufacturing facilities to warehouses and then on to the customers.
The result
Figures indicate that Vicaima generated about 90 million from its industrial business. The increase in the revenues is expected from the ability to track and locate products in real-time.
The deployment of RFID Systems started early this year in January and the rollout was finished by May. It was noted that initially the RFID deployment faced some anticipated challenges like the metal elements on the production lines interrupted the interrogators ability to read every RFID tag. Filipe Maia Ferreira, the Managing Director for Vicaimas concluded that the management always had faith in RFID as a technology but just decided to wait to implement till the time technology would mature enough to start showing a positive change in the numbers.
